Amidst the controversy over a unitary leader for the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, the party’s joint coordinator, Edappadi K Palaniswami, responded for the first time and said that attempts were being made to weaken the party.

The general council meeting for the AIADMK, which currently has two leaders, with O Panneerselvam as coordinator, and Edappadi K Palaniswami as the joint coordinator, is scheduled to be held on June 23.

However, during a meeting held on June 14, to discuss resolutions to be passed during the meeting, voices were raised demanding unitary leadership in the AIADMK, shocking OPS. However, EPS was not shocked by the incident.

Since then, the two leaders have reached an impasse, where OPS, after several of his attempts turned futile, requested that the general council meeting be postponed.

Nearly nine days after the issues came up, EPS reacted to it. “No one can defeat the party. Few are trying to weaken it but their attempts won’t succeed”, stated EPS while meeting the IT Wing heads of the party and requesting them to continue their job and support.
