Bubba Watson announces decision on PGA Tour future

After weeks of speculation, Bubba Watson has finally made a decision about his future on the PGA Tour, and like many other golfers before him, announced he will be joining the LIV Golf series. Wednesday, Watson clarified further that not only is he joining LIV, but he’s also “retired” from the PGA Tour.

Watson’s response came after a fan sent a warning to the golfer that if he resigns, other golfers will take his place.

“Dear Bubba Watson, I respect your reasons for signing with LIV, and I also know you understand players chasing the Tour as you played mini-tours for years before making it,” the fan account tweeted. “If you resign your Tour membership 4 players will earn a spot in KFT finals. I hope you consider it.”

“I have resigned from @PGATour,” responded Watson. “Was told I will be removed from rankings after Sunday. Not sure how that plays out. Up to the Tour.”

Former PGA Tour golfers recently sued the tour so they could still participate in the FedEx Playoffs and were denied. Several players have left the PGA Tour to take the big money that the LIV is offering. Even Tiger Woods was reportedly offered between $700 to $800 million to join but turn down that offer.

Watson is just the latest to take the money and run, though more golfers seem to be joining up all the time.
