Damian Priest is quickly becoming one of the top stars on WWE RAW.

Coming off of his United States Championship win at WWE SummerSlam, “The Archer of Infamy” didn’t rest on his laurels; instead, he confronted WWE Champion Bobby Lashley the next night on RAW and wound up facing him in a tag team match.

During an appearance on WWE After The Bell, Priest explained how he’s always looking to build his legacy, and getting in the ring with “The All Mighty” was a great way to so. He then jokingly compared going from winning the United States Championship to confronting Lashley to running up stairs and skipping some steps.

“I consider our legacy, what we’re trying to accomplish in big picture, like for me in WWE, I consider it like a ladder, and I’m just trying to climb, rung by rung, this ladder of legacy,” said Priest. “And so far, I got a few, I’m getting up there, between accomplishments in NXT to WrestleMania, SummerSlam, but I gotta keep climbing.

“I want my name to be in the history books forever, and I’m getting there. I made history, I’m a United States Champion, and nobody can take that away from me, which is kind of cool. But it can’t stop there. I gotta keep wanting more. I gotta keep striving for more. And maybe I jumped the gun a little bit [by confronting Lashley], like I went straight to the top. I could have taken a few more steps, I kind of skipped. It’s like when you run up the steps, I skip a few steps every now and then, I got long legs. That’s kinda what I did and you know that, that was another opportunity and let’s see how it goes.”

Priest stated that he’d welcome the opporunity to face Lashley again because this bout would let him test himself against the best WWE RAW has to offer.

In the same podcast, Priest described how he has learned a lot from working with The Miz; he stated that the former WWE Champion has taught him a lot about promos. For this very reason, he called facing off with The Miz the perfect way to transition from NXT to RAW.

“I mean I’m working with guys that are proven, you know, that they’ve been here for many years and sustained success and relevance throughout all these years,” said Priest. “And I get to test myself against them and also learn and grow working with them, and I couldn’t ask for a better way to segue from NXT to Monday Night RAW than working with The Miz.

“He just knows how to just be important, he knows how to be front and center, he knows how to be a star. And just being in the ring with him, I can feed off of that stuff and learn, like I’m watching him do things and I’m like oh I should probably do it that way.”

Priest elaborated by saying that he literally watches The Miz speak when they’re in the ring together so he can see how he’s speaking and delivering a promo.

“I think for me the most uncomfortable thing is holding a microphone and speaking to the WWE Universe,” said Priest. “With him, and I see just how his flow goes and how he breaks and how he makes sure that you understand every single word he says. And being in the ring, when I was on MizTV and we’re going back and forth, like I’m listening to him speak, and I’m seeing the way he’s delivering, and you can see how I start speaking, and then by the end, I’m more so speaking like he does.

“I picked that up, and I kept on trying to improve on it, and then I would watch him a lot. While we’re in the ring, I would just stare at his mouth and see how he’s talking, and then see his body language as well. And that’s just one of the many things that I’ve picked up from him.”
