Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been living in a gorgeous home in Santa Barbara for the last year. The former royals are loving raising their two kids, son Archie and daughter Lilibet, in the $14.7 million property in California’s prestigious Montecito neighborhood.
Harry and Meghan have offered sneak peeks inside their nine-bedroom, 16-bathroom mega-mansion since settling down in August 2020. The abode — which was built in 2003 — sits on more than seven acres and spans a total of 14,500-square-feet.
As the Zillow listing reads, the residence “includes a library, office, spa with a separate dry and wet sauna, gym, game room, arcade, theater, wine cellar and five-car garage.” The exquisite estate also has “sweeping lawns, tiered rose gardens, tall Italian cypress trees, blooming lavender [and] century old olive trees.”
The pair’s move to Santa Barbara came months after they announced their plans to step back from their roles as senior members of Queen Elizabeth‘s royal family in January 2020. Meghan and Harry first relocated to Canada with Archie, but after less than two months, they moved their family to Los Angeles in March.
However, Harry was “extremely unhappy” in L.A., an insider told In Touch at the time. The duo didn’t stay long in, though, as they purchased their Montecito pad by August. “Santa Barbara is more his scene than L.A. It’s peaceful and chill,” the source explained. “He has the freedom and space he needs.”
Since getting situated in their digs, it seems Meghan and Harry — who wed in May 2018 — couldn’t be happier about living in Santa Barbara. The Duke of Sussex and the Suits alum purchased the gated property so they could have a “more private” home for their family, an insider exclusively shared with Closer, adding, “the house has a Mediterranean vibe to it … French doors and archways and a pool.”
Aside from feeling more at ease in central California, the source said the property is most ideal for their children, especially Archie, who was born in May 2019. “It’s beautiful and spacious, but not too over-the-top,” the insider explained. “It’s the perfect place for Archie to grow up.”
Considering Archie’s little sister, Lilibet, arrived in June 2021, it’s a good thing they have more than enough room to raise both their kiddos!
