Ireland v Zimbabwe, 1st ODI: Preview, Blitzpools Fantasy Tips, and

The three-match ODI series between Ireland and Zimbabwe will get underway on 8 September at the Civil Service Cricket Club, Belfast. The two sides recently played five T20Is, where Ireland emerged victorious 3-2.

Among the batters, Ireland will be heavily rely on Paul Stirling, who was adjudged Player of the Series in the T20Is for aggregating 234 runs at a strike rate of 138. With ball, Mark Adair has been in excellent form, claiming 10 scalps in his last three T20Is.

Ireland’s last ODI assignment was against South Africa, where they levelled the three-match series 1-1 after the first match was washed out. Andy Balbirnie was the highest run-getter for his side, with 174 at 58.

In the T20Is, Zimbabwe won the series opener against Ireland, but then suffered three defeats on the trot. They came strongly in the fifth match, defending 124. It was possible because of brilliant bowling from Luke Jongwe and Donald Tiripano, who claimed three wickets each.

Zimbabwe were outclassed by Bangladesh 0-3 in their last ODI series. Regis Chakabva was the highest run-getter on either side, aggregating 164 at 54.66.

Ireland are slightly favourites on paper before heading to this contest. However, if Zimbabwean batters manage to put on a valiant show altogether, they may take the lead.

– Bet on Ireland. Appoint Simi Singh as captain. He can produce good value with both bat and ball.

– Sean Williams can be a safe vice-captain pick. Include Ryan Burl and Adair as well among all-rounders.

– Josh Little, Blessing Muzarabani, and Jongwe are genuine wicket-taking options.
