MongoDB express

MongoDB express

Definition of MongoDB express

MongoDB provides different kinds of functionality to the user, the MongoDB express is one of the functionalities provided by MongoDB. Basically MongoDB express is a lightweight interface or in other words, we can say that it is a web-based administrative interface that helps us to deploy and manage the MongoDB database effectively and interactively. We can implement MongoDB express by using Node.js express and bootstrap packages as per our requirement. MongoDB express administrative panels we can implement without any internet facility. MongoDB express means we can generate the HTTP request and response over the local network by using the MongoDB express.

Syntax

Basically, there is no specific syntax of MongoDB express but here we try to discuss how to install MongoDB express as follows.

There are two ways to install the MongoDB express as follows.

npm install -g mongo-express

Explanation

By using the above statement we can install MongoDB express as well as we can install MongoDB express as globally as per our requirement.

npm install mongo-express

Explanation

If we need to install MongoDB express as a non-global mode then we can use the above statement as per our requirement.

How does MongoDB express work?

Now let’s see how MongoDB express works as follows.

API means Application Programming Interface, which is a set of clearly defined methods of communication between the frontend and the database.
Basically, REST API is used to provide the interface between the system and web application that helps make the communication with each other as per requirement. Normally REST API we can implement by using the following different methods as per our requirement. Here we use an express administrative tool with the MongoDB database, but MongoDB is a NoSQL database and it uses the JSON format to store the document into the database.
Now first understand what the methods available are during the API creation and what use of the different methods is as follows.

GET: basically GET method we used to fetch or retrieve the data from the database as per our requirement.
POST: This method is used to add the document into the database per our requirement.
PUT: suppose we need to update the document from the database at that time we can use this method.
DELETE: By using this method we can delete documents from the database

Express is a system for building web applications on top of Node.js. It improves on the worker creation measure that is now accessible in Node. In the event that you were pondering, Node permits you to utilize JavaScript as your server-side language.

MongoDB is an information base or we can call it a database. This is where you store data for your sites (or we can say web applications).

Now let’s see what the prerequisites of MongoDB are expressed as follows.

First, we need to install the Node on your system by command.

After successful installation of Node, we need to open the node by using the following command as follows.

node-v

Now install express, so we need to follow the following process as follows.
To begin with, we need to introduce express. We can do this by running the npm introduction command. (npm is introduced with Node, which is the reason you use orders like npm init and npm introduce).
Run npm install express – save this command on your order line.
After successfully installation of MongoDB express it shown an express version that we installed on the system as shown below screenshot as follow.

MongoDB EXpress 1

Now let’s see how we can use MongoDB express as follows.

First, we need to use express but we cannot connect the browser, so we need to connect the browser by using the listen method as follows.

app.listen(8080, function(){
console.log(‘ ’)})

Explanation

In the above statement, we use the listen method with port number and here we print the message that we want. The final output of the above statement can illustrate by using the following screenshot as follows.

MongoDB EXpress 2

Example

Now let’s see the different examples of express in MongoDB for better understanding as follows.
After successfully setting up MongoDB express we need to create the HTML file and write the following code as follows.

!DOCTYPE html>

This is First Mongo Express

Welcome in MongoDB Express administrative tool

Explanation

Here we created an HTML file name as home.html and we wrote the above code inside that file and saved it. After that restart the server and refresh the browser. The final output of the above code we can illustrate by using the following screenshot as follows.

output 1

After that, we need to install the MongoDB, after that we connect by using the Mongoclient method with the following code as follows.

const MongoClient = require('mongodb').MongoClient

Now we can see code and write code to connect to MongoDB by using the following code as follows.

MongoClient.connect(/* ... */)
.then(client => {
// ...
const db = client.db('star-wars-quotes')
const Student = db.collection('info')
// ...
})

Before executing the above code we need to set up the MongoDB with atlas and follow the same process.
Now insert the documents by using the insert method as per our requirement as well as we can read documents by using the find () method.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Now let’s see the advantages and disadvantages of MongoDB express as follows.

Advantages

  • It provides an open-source platform to the developer.
  • It is easy to learn.
  • It provides user-friendly interfaces.
  • MongoDB Express provides a suitable structure to the user.
  • We can connect multiple databases as per our requirements.

Disadvantages

  • It reduces the performance of the computing task.
  • It allows you to make changes in code.
  • It has asynchronous programming.
