Carlos Sainz made it to just Lap 9 of 51 at the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix before pulling up with an issue at Turn 4 – with team mate Charles Leclerc then compounding Ferrari’s woe, as he was forced to retire with his own problem.
Sainz had been running P4 when he pulled up with what he felt was a brake-by-wire issue, before trudging disconsolately back to the pits.
Team mate Leclerc, however, was leading the race on Lap 20 when smoke was seen pouring from the back of his F1-75, the Monagasque driver suffering his second mechanical issue in three races – while he was forced to watch as the Red Bull pair of title rivals Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez romped into the lead in a now Ferrari-less race.
