Webber Wentzel has rehired a fintech partner from Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, along with two other lawyers.
Fintech specialist Christoff Pienaar was head of CDH’s telecommunications media and technology (TMT) practice in Cape Town, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was also sector head for financial institutions, financial services and fintech, and a member of CDH’s executive committee, according to a statement by Webber Wentzel.
He returns to WW after seven years, and is accompanied by fellow ex-CDH lawyers Mieke Vlok (associate) and candidate attorney (trainee) Shannon O’Brien.
Pienaar previously spent three years at WW as a partner before moving to CDH in 2015. He is dual-qualified and, in addition to being admitted as an attorney in South Africa, is also a practising solicitor in England and Wales.
Prior to him initially joining Webbers, in 2012, he spent five years as a partner at Wedlake Bell in London, according to his LinkedIn profile.
“We are confident that Christoff’s strong market credentials will bring bench strength to our TMT team,” said Christo Els, senior partner and chairman at Webbers.
“His deep expertise in fintech will be great for clients where we are seeing large numbers of tech related matters across Africa,” he added.
Last year, CDH combined with Nairobi-based boutique corporate law firm, Kieti Advocates.
